Monogram Facts and Considerations
Things to consider regarding monograms and embroidery designs:
- There are thousands of machine embroidery fonts available but not all machine embroidery fonts are created equal, the quality can vary tremendously.
- All monograms do not work with all monogram fonts. Some letter combinations in some font styles are just not good fits. Monogram shops typically have the monogram styles displayed from which to choose but do not allow for seeing the finished design prior to pick up leading to unfortunate surprises. The monograms page on our website allows you to view all letters of the alphabet for our monogram designs so you can see how your initials will look.
- There is a limit to the size a font or design can be enlarged or decreased in size. With this being said, fonts and designs can be re-digitized for the embroidery machine at most sizes for an additional fee. Digitizing a file means creating the file from scratch in the finished size utilizing specialty software that allows the design information to be read by an embroidery machine. Our monograms page has a extra-large option so you can see the fonts available for large designs such as shower curtains without having to be re-digitized.
- Monogram placement on the item or garment needs to be determined and can be creative.
- Monogram font styles can be combined for different effects making the possibilities endless.
- Borders and motifs can be added to a monogram to enhance it, further personalize it or just to add a touch of elegance or fun.
- Not all monograms are suitable for all types of fabrics such as heavy weight fabrics, leather, vinyl and fabrics with a nap; i.e., terry (bath towels). Our monogram descriptions state if a design is not suitable for certain fabrics such as terry bath towels.
- Thread types can change the look of a monogram or embroidered design. Threads range from matte to high sheen, even metallic and may be variegated in color or hue to add interest.
- Sometimes it’s good to “think outside the box” for a unique design.
- Client provided graphic designs can be converted to a custom embroidery design.
